Rahul Ballal, Ph.D., has served as a member of the Agios board of directors since August 2022. He has served as chief executive officer of Mediar Therapeutics, Inc., a private biotechnology company, since March 2023.

Prior to Mediar, Dr. Ballal served as president and chief executive officer of Imara, leading the company from Series A through an IPO, raising $200 million in capital and completing a merger with Enliven Therapeutics. Before Imara, he was chief business officer of Northern Biologics and an entrepreneur-in-residence at Versant Ventures.

He holds a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Georgetown University, an M.S. in Bioinformatics from Johns Hopkins University, and a B.S. in Biology from Brown University.
