John L. Hennessy has served on Alphabet's Board since 2004 and as Chair of the Board since January 2018, having previously been Lead Independent Director from April 2007 to January 2018. He chairs the Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee.
He is the James F. and Mary Lynn Gibbons Professor of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering at Stanford and directs the Knight-Hennessy Scholars program; he received the ACM A.M. Turing Award and the IEEE Medal of Honor.
