Richard J. Hipple retired as Executive Chairman of Materion Corporation, a manufacturer of highly engineered advanced materials, in December 2017, after serving as its Chairman and Chief Executive Officer from 2006 to 2017 and President from 2005 to 2017. Before Materion he spent 26 years in the steel industry in roles spanning project engineering, strategic planning, supply chain management, operations, sales and marketing, and executive management.

He qualifies as an audit committee financial expert and chairs KeyCorp's Audit Committee, also serving on the Executive and Nominating and Corporate Governance Committees. He is a trustee of the Cleveland Institute of Music.
