Microsoft Corporation acquires Bonsai

Microsoft Corporation acquired Bonsai, a transaction announced in June 2018, structured as Agreement to acquire signed June 20, 2018.

Bonsai operates in Microsoft Business AI, is based in Berkeley, California, United States. Bonsai is a Berkeley, California startup with a machine-teaching platform that uses deep reinforcement learning to build 'brains' for autonomous industrial systems, letting subject-matter experts train systems for robotics, energy, HVAC and manufacturing without deep AI expertise. Microsoft acquired it to advance autonomous systems on Azure.

Combine Bonsai's machine-teaching platform with Microsoft's AI research, Azure and simulation tools to create an end-to-end solution for building autonomous-system brains.
