Microsoft Corporation acquired Komoku, a transaction announced in March 2008.

Komoku operates in Security / Malware Protection, is based in College Park, Maryland, United States. Komoku was a Maryland-based computer-security company, spun out of University of Maryland research, that developed hardware- and software-based rootkit-detection technology. Microsoft acquired it to strengthen its malware-detection and anti-rootkit security capabilities.

Incorporate advanced rootkit-detection technology into Microsoft's security products and malware-protection efforts.
