Microsoft Corporation acquires VXtreme

Microsoft Corporation acquired VXtreme, a transaction announced in August 1997.

VXtreme operates in NetShow (streaming media), is based in Sunnyvale, California, USA. VXtreme developed streaming-media technology, including adaptive compression that adjusts dynamically to available bandwidth and network video-delivery solutions, with customers such as CNN Interactive and General Electric. Microsoft acquired the Sunnyvale company to fold its compression and delivery technology into the NetShow streaming-media platform as part of a broader streaming multimedia strategy launched alongside NetShow 2.0.
