A 1976 industrial-management graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology, he began his career at Arthur Andersen & Company before joining Park National Bank in 1979 and then First American National Bank in Nashville in 1985, where over a 14-year career he served as President of the General Bank and President of the Investment Services Group.
