AbbVie acquired Mitokinin, Inc., a transaction announced in October 2023, structured as exercise of exclusive acquisition right.

Mitokinin, Inc. operates in Neuroscience (Parkinson's), is based in San Francisco, California. AbbVie exercised its exclusive right to acquire Mitokinin, a discovery-stage biotech developing a potentially first-in-class disease-modifying treatment for Parkinson's disease. Mitokinin's lead compound is a selective PINK1 activator designed to address the mitochondrial dysfunction believed to contribute to Parkinson's pathogenesis and progression.

Adds a differentiated disease-modifying Parkinson's approach (PINK1 activation) to AbbVie's neuroscience pipeline.
