About This Deal
Agilent Technologies acquired Lasergen for approximately $185 million (two steps), a transaction completed in May 2018, structured as cash (step-up from a prior minority stake).
Lasergen operates in Diagnostics and Genomics, is based in Houston, Texas, USA. Houston-based Lasergen develops next-generation sequencing chemistry, including its Lightning Terminators technology aimed at making DNA sequencing faster, more accurate and less expensive. Agilent first took a 48% minority stake in March 2016 and acquired the remaining shares in May 2018.
Full ownership of Lasergen gave Agilent the sequencing chemistry to build a complete, integrated clinical next-generation-sequencing workflow and deepen its diagnostics presence.
