Alphabet acquires GrandCentral Communications

Alphabet acquired GrandCentral Communications, a transaction completed in July 2007.

GrandCentral Communications operates in Communications / voice (later Google Voice). Google acquired GrandCentral Communications, a service that unifies a user's multiple phone numbers and voice mailboxes into a single web-accessible account, with features like one number ringing selected phones based on the caller, a central online voicemail box, call forwarding, spam blocking, and switching a live call between phones. The technology became the basis for what Google later launched as Google Voice.

Add web-based voice-communications management to Google's efforts to enhance collaborative exchange of information, tying a phone number to the person rather than a location or device.
