Alphabet acquires North

Alphabet acquired North, a transaction announced in June 2020.

North operates in Hardware / Wearables, is based in Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. North was a Canadian smart-glasses and wearable-computing company, maker of the Focals smart glasses, with roots in human-computer interaction and heads-up display technology. Google acquired it to bolster its ambient- and helpful-computing hardware efforts. The North team joined Google to work on next-generation devices.

Google acquired North to advance its investment in ambient, helpful computing and wearable hardware, adding North's smart-glasses and HCI expertise.
